WHAT SONG SHOULD I DO? REPERTOIRE CLUE ...
Rodney does traditional cabaret material: Classic Broadway musical songs, old torch songs, blues, novelty songs, ballads, and standards up through material made famous by (a few examples to give you an idea) Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Frank Loesser, Billie Holiday, George and Ira Gerschwin, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Anita O'Day, Count Basie, Michael Buble, Dana Owens Album (aka Queen Latifah), Linda Ronstadt (Lush Life Album), Ray Conniff Jr., Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums, LaVay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, etc. etc. to name just a random sampling of the general type of material covered in the Dibble repertoire. Where else in the world could you hear La Donne Mobile (opera aria), or Bei Mir bist du Shoen accompanied by piano and washtub bass??!! (occasionally, Rod is joined by other instrumentalists, recently including Steve Grossman on saxophone, G. R. Olson (GRO) on washtub bass, and Paulguitar.com Hlebcar on guitar.
Experienced AND beginning singers welcome! Come in early in the week just before 9pm to get seat to try out your songs with Maestro Rod, who is usually very kindly to beginners who sincerely wish to perform and are just beginning to perform in public. After your debut, celebrate with a libation and / or a meal.
By state law, the bar is 21 and older. Historically, it is my understanding that during the hours the kitchen (Alley Galley) is open, it is a restaurant, too. If you are not of legal age, please do NOT order alcohol or imbibe alcoholic beverages on the premises!
Paleeeeez! Singing involves lungs functioning. No smoking inside. Friendly smokers talk and laugh (but don''t inhale) just outside the front door of the Alley.

Don't let that ambiguity and cognitive dissonance interfere with just enjoying life, having a meal and a drink and singing a song at the Alley. And there is just a little bit more to life than just hanging out in a bar ALL the time: In the Springtime, and protected by a proclamation by United States President Emeritus Teddy Roosevelt and California State Law, baby ducks and geese abound at nearby Lake Merritt, which is an easy stroll or jog about 3 miles in circumference. Enjoy!
